Our School

Huntley Centennial PS

We acknowledge that our learning is taking place on unceded and unsurrendered Algonquin Territory. We thank the Algonquin Nation for hosting us and recognize their enduring presence on this land.

Our School

Welcome to Huntley Centennial Public School. Our students, staff, and parents are proud to be part of the Huntley Centennial community. The staff is dedicated to the learning and success of our students and to creating partnerships with parents and the community. We are proud of the work that has been done in recent years in the areas of literacy, numeracy, the arts, and social responsibility. We continue to support and further develop learning in these important areas.

We are a neighbourhood school with an enthusiastic and talented teaching staff that delivers programs, which infuse the Ontario Curriculum with energy, engagement and relevance. We enrich the learning experience of our students, and provide opportunities for students, whatever their interests and abilities, to find success and develop self-confidence. Huntley Centennial Public School is an excellent place to learn! We are a dual track school and offer a full day JK to grade 8 English program as well as a SK to grade 8 French Immersion Program. A beautiful addition was opened in 2009. The new wing houses our kindergarten rooms, primary classes, a large multi-purpose arts room and our second full size gymnasium.

Our Staff

Our dedicated staff consists of Teachers, Special Education Teachers, Early Childhood Educators, Educational Assistants, aLlibrary Technician, Office Staff, a Chief Custodian, a teaching Vice-Principal and a Principal. Collectively they possess a wide range of expertise and experience to help our students extend their academic skills, interests and leadership qualities. Within our staff, we have leaders from a diverse range of fields, including literacy, performing arts, mathematics, science and technology, sports and gardening.

Our Community

Huntley Centennial P.S. is located in the Village of Carp. While the village was historically agricultural, the peacefulness and the beauty of the area have attracted many former urban dwellers, providing growth to the community and greater diversity to its makeup. The Carp Fair is a big event for everyone and attracts visitors from across the region. Teachers and students engage in work such as art projects, writing, and poetry that they enter into various competitions at the Fair.

We welcome volunteers in our school. Parents, grandparents and community volunteers participate in school activities, such as student reading, fundraising events, field trips, sporting events, to name a few.

The Huntley Centennial School Council is an enthusiastic volunteer group of parents, teachers and administrators, dedicated to strengthening educational opportunities and partnerships with the community.

Each of our classrooms include technology devices and a projection device with interactive whiteboards. Safe Schools Initiatives

The safety and well-being of our students is of the highest priority at Huntley. Our character education initiatives are focused on promoting and encouraging good citizenship. Our bullying prevention focus involves close cooperation with a number of community resources and the school-wide implementation of our WITS program (Walk away, Ignore, Talk it out, and Seek help). Throughout the year, we promote positive character traits; assemblies are used to introduce concepts and teachers continue the learning and discussion in their classrooms through read-aloud books, shared reading and health lessons. We also celebrate our successes during our monthly assembly and recognize a group of students displaying strong character through their actions at school. Our respectful and supportive school climate is fostered through close working relationships among students, teachers, the School Council, parents and the community at large.
